When many people think of, or visit, Arlington
National Cemetery, they often don't get past the familiar images - row upon row
of plain white headstones, the grave sites of the Kennedy's, and the stark,
dramatic Tomb of the Unknowns. What these visitors often don't realize is that
there is a whole different world to Arlington, one of dramatic statuary, angels,
artillery, and monuments of all types. Travel back beyond the amphitheater and
up into the hills to see what most visitors miss.
Without question, Arlington National Cemetery is
one of the most important and emotional locations you can visit in the entire
United States. Looking out across the thousands of markers, you'd think we'd
have learned it's lesson by now.
